After a long break we're back with one of the greatest : George Van Eps and the classic Gershwin tune "They can't take that away from me".
If you`re into solo jazz guitar, then you MUST check out his work. Ted Greene was a huge fan and got a lot of influence from him, that tells a lot !
This is the straight transcription, add some slides, syncopation to bring it to live. Tim Lerch which we mentioned in a previous post did a wonderful rendition in this video :
Barry Galbraith, 1919 - 1983, remains one of the most admired jazz guitarists of all time. As a studio musician in the 1950's and 1960's he was in such high demand that he left us with one of the richest collections of jazz recordings on record, but at the same time one of the most limited, due to the fact that he most commonly appeared as sideman only.

I love how he creates a motion with static chords, using the companion minor of a dominant or playing different voicings of a same chord. I realize it may not be the best transcription, it's only an attempt, adapt it to your liking, at least the chords are there.
Tim Lerch who studied with Ted did recorded this blues as a mini lesson on youtube. Check him out, he's a great player with a tasty tone.
His haunting chordal playing is present in "When I fall in love" the Victor Young standard. His approach to playing chords and harmonizing was quite unique at that time. Don't hurt yourselves with the wide stretches :)
I'll feature a lot of Ted's work in this blog. The wonderful website at www.tedgreene.com has plenty of material to work on but Ted's notation is not the easiest to read. Anyway here's my honest attempt to tab it, not perfect, still learning how to use powertab , enjoy !
